The ditches are flanked by arboreal-bush type vegetation, for the most part consisting of: Black Poplar (Populus nigra [2]), several species of Willow: White (Salix alba [3]), Purple (Salix purpurea) and Salix cinerea (Salix cinerea) [4], English Oak (Quercus robur [5]), Smoothleaf Elm (Ulmus minor), Hedge Maple (Acer campestre), European Alder (Alnus glutinosa [6]) and Cornel (Cornus sanguinea).
The margins of the lakes and canals run almost uninterruptedly with well developed typical marshland plants.
The most typical species are the Marsh Reeds (Phragmites australis [7]), False Bulrush - or Great Reedmace - (Typha latifolia [8]), Yellow Flag (Iris pseudacorus [9]), Branched Bur-Reed (Sparganium erectum [10]), Common Water-Plantain (Alisma plantago-aquatica) and sedges (Carex spp. [11]) and sedges (Juncus spp. [12]) and other riparian species such as Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria [13]) and Marsh Spurge (Euphorbia palustris [14]).
Various hydrophytes populate the waters: Milfoils (Myriophyllum), Pondweeds (Potamogeton [15]), Water crowfoot (Ranunculus aquatilis [16]), Amphibious Bistort (Polygonum amphibium [17]) and Common Duckweed (Lemna minor).
Yorkshire Fog (Holcus lanatus) dominates the fields, but Ragged Robin (Lychnis flos-cuculi), Wild Oat (Avena fatua), Purple Moor-Grass (Molinia coerulea) and various species of clover (Trifolium sp.) are all plentiful.
