[1]The naturalistic importance of the area is mostly due to the presence of birds. The stretches of water offer shelter to many aquatic birds and waders.
The most important species are: Little Grebe - or Dabchick, Bittern, Purple and Grey Herons, Little Egret, Night Heron and several species of ducks (Mallard, Teal, Shoveler, Garganey), Buzzard, Marsh Harrier, Mooorhen and Coots, Black-winged Stilt, Woodchat Shrike and Red-Backed Shrike, Kingfisher, Little Owl, Hoopoe, the Chiff-Chaff and other warblers (Phylloscopus sp.), etc.
